This 1949 Chevrolet 5 Window pick up has been through many hands and many updates over its lifetime. SRC was commissioned to restore it to driver quality so the new owner could enjoy this on daily errands and weekend shows. After extensive metal repairs to the cab a complete color change was in order along with a mechanical check up. The truck will retain its original 3 speed gearbox and straight 6 engine.
We first viewed the 49 in a garage that was no bigger than the truck. After some pushing we loaded the truck and all its parts
After shedding some light on the situation we
discovered just how bad the cab was in need of repair.
During the teardown we carefully separated the parts
we could recondition from the ones that could not be saved.
Back from the media blaster; we could now begin to
see what lurked beneath the surface.
The popularity of early pick up trucks has given us the
ability to use new sheet metal that’s very close to original spec.
Missing a few parts! Metal fabrication begins.
Everything from panel replacement to panel alignment
is a critical phase for superior results.
Many hours later our sheet metal repairs, body fillers
and spray polyester the cab heads into the spray booth.
Black can reveal the slightest imperfections. We sprayed
the truck with a few coats of single stage black, and then
wet sanding to 1500 before applying the final coats.
